Specialist chemicals manufacturer Mapei has officially opened its new factory in south Liverpool.
Founded in Italy in 1937, Mapei is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of chemical products for the construction industry. Operating in 57 countries across the world the business generates annual revenues of more than €4bn.
This new 34,000 sq ft factory at Speke is the company’s second UK facility. As well as manufacturing the site will also provide warehousing, research and development laboratories and offices. It will employ 15 people.
There were two guest speakers at the opening event – Charlie Luxton – founder of architectural practice, Charlie Luxton Design, and Jasen Gauld national concrete solutions and product development director at Aggregate Industries UK.
Earlier in April LBN revealed Aggregate Industries was to occupy a new ‘super-shed’ at the Port of Liverpool with a storage capacity of more than 40,000 tonnes that will see a rise in the import of building materials via the Mersey.
Both speakers addressed guests on sustainability in the industry. This was followed by a launch presentation on Mapei Cube – a complete portfolio of products aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the production and use of concrete.
Mapei chief executives Veronica and Marco Squinzi were also in attendance. Veronica said: “Mapei UK was founded in 1989, in Middlesbrough.
“Today, also thanks to the local production capacity, we are the market leader in products for the installation of ceramic and stone materials.
